Greenwich Hospital’s GLOW gala raises significant funds to support Oncology Services and honors outstanding physician
Greenwich, CT (Oct. 23, 2017) – Greenwich Hospital’s annual gala fundraiser was a glowing success, raising over $500,000 for oncology services. Supporters from Fairfield and Westchester counties joined in the festivities on Saturday, October 21 at Greenwich Country Club.
The party began at 6:30 pm with cocktails and silent and wine auctions in the club’s main living room and bar. Guests entered the ballroom for dinner, which was transformed into an autumnal paradise by Reed McIlvaine of Renny & Reed Floral and Event Design. The walls were draped in sunset toned shimmering fabric panels. Overhead were twinkle lights and decorative spheres covered in colorful fall leaves. Bronze vases filled with dahlias in burgundy, plum and orange added to the warm glow of the room.
Greenwich Hospital President & CEO Norman G. Roth presented Philip J. McWhorter, MD, director of Surgery, with the President’s Award for his many years of dedicated service to the hospital and to the Greenwich community.
“Phil has an unwavering commitment to his patients and has made numerous accomplishments in the surgical field over his 40 year career at Greenwich Hospital,” said Roth. “His expertise in the field of surgery is highly regarded and his guidance continues to set an example for younger surgeons and members of our medical staff.”
Dr. McWhorter graciously accepted the award, thanking his staff and colleagues for being one of the reasons he loves coming to work each day. He also expressed gratitude for the ability to live and work in such a wonderful community.
Following the award presentation, a video was shown that featured three patients who shared their touching stories and sincere appreciation for the expert, compassionate care they received at Smilow Cancer Hospital’s Greenwich Campus. “Greenwich Hospital is a lifesaver,” said one patient. “They will give you the best care. They will treat you with compassion. I will never go to another hospital.”
Joe Dunning of Sotheby’s led a spirited live auction that included a “year of shoes” from Richards, signed artwork by Peter Max, a Tahitian pearl and diamond necklace from Shreve, Crump & Low, dinner in your home from the world renowned chef at Rao’s, and dazzling Buccellati chandelier earrings from Betteridge. Following the live auction, guests flooded the dance floor, inspired by the eclectic selection of music performed by Billy Stone Band.
