COVID-19 Letter – Office of Development – April 7, 2020

Dear Valued Friend of Greenwich Hospital,
“I’m profoundly grateful for the heroic efforts of all health workers on the front lines of the global fight against the coronavirus. Their courage is exemplary and their commitment is inspirational.”
These are the words of United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a recent UN social media post that was accompanied by photographs of our Greenwich Hospital doctors and nurses working in their protective gear on the Medicine Unit.
We all find ourselves in unimaginable times, but perhaps the starkest reality is felt most profoundly by the heroic staff of our hospital. Greenwich Hospital is a true microcosm of what is happening in some of the hardest hit Covid-19 regions of our world.
Our community’s show of solidarity and incredible support are lifting up our hospital employees, who are facing a scenario of a magnitude they have never before experienced. We thank them for their bravery and their skilled care. We are buoyed by the knowledge that dozens of patients have been discharged home and are on their way back to good health.
Now, more than ever, the support of Greenwich Hospital is critical. Our COVID-19 Funds are used for equipment, supplies and operational expense as we face this pandemic. We share with you a reflection from one of our devoted families:
“As my wife and I watched this worldwide pandemic unfold and begin to hit our local community, we decided that we could not stand by without doing our share to help fight it. With New York City the epicenter of the spread of this disease, Greenwich is at great risk of experiencing higher than average cases of coronavirus. We are so thankful to the doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers who are risking their own health every day to care for our friends and neighbors. More than ever, these are not words that simply have a nice ring; brave individuals are putting their lives on the line to care for others. We decided to reach out to Greenwich Hospital to see how we could help in a meaningful way by contributing in a manner that would be certain to be used directly to fight this battle. With the help of all in our community who are in a position to do so, we can give our community the greatest chance of getting through this emergency as safely as possible.”

Thank you for your support of our front line heroes.
With our deepest gratitude,
