COVID-19 Letter – Office of Development April 27, 2020

“Knowing that Greenwich Hospital was at the epicenter of the Covid-19 crisis in Connecticut, we wanted to do something that was immediately impactful. There was an urgent need to help fund temporary lodging for visiting nurses, doctors and staff from throughout the Yale New Haven Health system. This is where my family and I felt we could best support the front line team at Greenwich Hospital; we are truly grateful to all the medical heroes who are working so hard to save lives.” Madeleine Rudin
Dear Friends,
Standing together in spirit, even as we cannot do so physically, has united all of us. We are stronger together. Never has this phrase meant so much to our hospital than it has over the course of these past weeks.
While the spread of the Coronavirus continues, nurses, doctors and staff from different departments in Greenwich Hospital volunteer to be re-deployed to the front lines of the Emergency Department and ICU. They learn the names of colleagues they never knew; they hold each other up during challenging moments; and they rejoice together as a recovered patient is discharged from the hospital.
When dozens of medical staff from our sister hospitals within the Yale New Haven Health System temporarily moved to Greenwich to assist with a surge of patients, our bond was strengthened.
“I wanted to help Greenwich in their time of need and had no doubt if our hospital had been as impacted by this pandemic, that they would step up for us,” said a nurse from New London.
We have been enveloped in an outpouring of support — through gifts to our Covid-19 Funds, donations of food, personal protective equipment (PPE), and arrangements of lodging at area hotels for our hospital and visiting staff. We are humbled by this altruism.
Together–with your continued support–we will get through the days ahead.
With deep gratitude,
Noël Appel and the Office of Development Team
