A Year-End Message

Dear Friends,
A most exceptional year in health care is coming to a close and we pause to thank you, our wonderful community, for your generosity and uplifting support. It is with your valued support that we are enabled to continue to deliver the finest care possible to our patients no matter the circumstance.
As the year-end approaches, we provide you with the following information and points of consideration for your continued commitment to Greenwich Hospital.
The CARES Act is Expiring – Act by December 31
If you take the standard deduction rather than itemizing, the CARES Act allows you to make a gift to Greenwich Hospital and reduce your taxable income by $300 for your charitable contributions in 2020. While that may not seem like much, imagine the impact it could have if all of our donors gave $300?
Use Your Appreciated Securities
Stocks and mutual funds owned for at least one year, entitle you to an income tax charitable deduction equal to their full market value. You also avoid capital gains tax on the securities that you contribute. We would be happy to share our transfer instructions.
Give with Your IRA: Qualified Charitable Distribution
If you are 70 ½ or older, you can make a tax-free gift of up to $100,000 to Greenwich Hospital directly from your IRA account. The tax impact is like making a fully deductible gift without increasing your income. Your IRA administrator can help you make a QCD from your IRA. Follow your financial institution’s forms and procedures to ensure you receive the tax benefits.
Recommend a Grant From Your Donor-Advised Fund
Make year-end giving easy. You can make an outright gift by suggesting a grant to the hospital. Contact your fund administrator to request a distribution form or download the appropriate form(s) from their website.
Please note that this information is not intended as professional tax, legal or accounting advice and we always suggest you speak with your advisor prior making any financial decisions. However, we are available to assist you in determining the best gift arrangement for your personal and financial goals. For more information, please feel free to contact me at 203-863-3861 or
The Office of Development team and I wish you and your family a safe and healthy holiday season.
